Informative Profile of Arequipa

It is the second biggest city of Peru about population and industrial activity; it has more than  1 million people, and its elevation is about 2,335 meters above sea level, it’s located in the south part of Peru.

This city is famous for its great architecture, based on the colonial and religious style and mixed by many kinds of movements as baroque, neoclassic, rococo, etc; using as a main material blokes of ashlar.Among its more popular architectural places we can find, The Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa, Church of the company, Convent of Sta. Catalina, Goyoneche Palace, House of the founder and many more.

It has as well as its main attractions, the beautiful view of its country side name “La Campiña”, it is a tour where visit many viewpoints, so the tourist can admire the outstanding landscape and the imposing view of the Volcanoes valley (especially the Misti), as well Arequipa is recognized by its gastronomy, Arequipa has around 190 dishes, which represents a great part of the Peruvian gastronomy, its main dishes are Chactado Guinea pig, Potato cake, Rocoto filled, Suck of shrimp and Ocopa Arequipa sauce, something that the good food lovers should taste.

For ending maybe the most important attraction in Arequipa, is the Colca Canyon located 100 miles away from Arequipa, it is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in USA (13,650 feet), the main place or activity to visit in Colca Canyon, is to watch the Condor’s flight at “The cruz del Condor”, this great spectacle is only seen early in the morning, you can watch the hugest flying bird in the world ,flying imposing trough the canyon its wings can measure 90cm each, and this bird can fly at 7,000 meters above sea level, something you cannot miss, on the way to the Cruz del Condor you can enjoy a beautiful landscape view  through the Colca valley.

As you can notice this is a great place to visit, you can enjoy a great food, divine architecture and a beautiful landscape, you should not miss it.
